Picture perception and discussion test captures your thought and imagination.
You will be shown 1 fuzzy picture for 30 seconds and you need to write story. You will be given 4 minutes to write story. Your story should include what happened in past, what is happening right now and what will happen in future. Be positive while writing your thoughts on paper. You also need to project 1 of the character as a central character and write story around it.
Tips for story writing in picture perception and discussion test
(1) Listen the instructions given by psychological officer carefully.
(2) Do not jump directly to story. Give yourself 15-20 seconds to analyze picture as it is very hazy and unclear.
(3) Write realistic story and use your friend’s name as characters.
(4) Write original story. Don’t copy whatever you read from ssb books about sample picture perception test stories.
(5) Your story should revolve around 1 central character and central character should be of your age.
(6) Plot of the story should be like this: There should be problem/concern and you central character should overcome it to bring positive end. End of the story should be positive.
To write your response in ssb picture perception test, you will get sheet like above picture to write a story. You need to mark central character in the box wherever you see them in hazy picture. You also have to mention mood (positive(+), negative(-), neutral(o)), age, sex (male, female, person), action of the central character before writing story.
Second part of ssb picture perception test is group discussion. Then after story writing, they divided us amongst group of 15 people. Discussion part of picture perception and discussion test includes narration and then after group discussion. If you narrate your story fluently in English, you will win 50% of battle. Group discussion takes place after completion of narration. So try to initiate it or try to come into discussion at early stage. Group needs to form 1 common story after discussion.

In my case total 82 candidates appeared in screening test in ssb (intelligence test + picture perception test) and then after 19 got selected for the next round. Luckily I was 1 of them.
Then after they allotted different chest numbers to us and provided barracks for out next 4 days of accommodation. They also informed about do’s and don’ts. Then after we filled up PIQ (Personal Information Questionnaire) form. Fill it carefully as it is base for your interview. You will be asked most of the questions from PIQ only what you have written so don’t try to bluff while filling PIQ.
