Google Play Store is probably the only place where you can rely on the latest apps and games for your Android phones and devices. But unfortunately, at times, you might face some issues while connecting to the application because Play Store will be not functioning and so you won’t be able to open the app. The reason for Google Play not working might be a simple issue or a bigger one but whatever it might be, you’ll be able to fix it yourself.
Reasons for getting “my PlayStore is not working”?
- The issue can be software related.
- Application crashes.
- Outdated software.
- Other technical issues.
How to fix the “Google Play Store not working” issue?
When my play store keeps giving me ‘connection timed out’ error then I tried these fixes. And trust me these are fully working and would definitely solve your problem. The troubleshooting options I am providing will work on all Android devices including the Samsung Galaxy models, HTC One, Micromax Canvas, Motorola, Sony Xperia phones, Mi, Lenovo, Lava, Huawei, Nexus, etc. These fixes support all Android versions starting from Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), Android 4.0 (Ince Cream Sandwich), Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), Android 4.4 (KitKat) to the latest Android 5.0 (Lollipop).
Troubleshooting “Play Store not working”
(1) Reboot your phone
When Play Store not connecting, the first and foremost step you should attempt is to reboot your phone. Rebooting your phone is the most effective and simple process to terminate any error with the device. Before you attempt the other troubleshooting options, reboot your phone or else your Play Store will not load properly.
(2) Update and install the latest Play Store app
Many Galaxy S3 users have faced this Play Store not responding issue and based on their reports it is found that the issue can be fixed simply by reinstalling the application to the latest version.
(3) Uninstall all Play Store updates
In case, your problem is not fixed even after updating the Play Store app, do it by uninstalling all updates from the Play Store Settings. Go to Settings > Apps > Google Play. Press on Uninstall updates. This will restore the Play Store to the original version. Alternatively, you can download the .apk file from http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-store/ and install Google Play Store the manual way. You will find all previous versions of the app from this link.
(4) Clear Play Store Cache and Data
If still, your Play Store not connecting issue exists then try this out. Go to your phone Settings > Applications Manager > All > Google Play Store. Tap on Clear Data and Clear Cache buttons. Once the data and the cache is cleared, press on Force Close and reboot your phone. This will probably resolve the issue. But remember after clearing your data, your personal settings will be deleted from your device.
(5) Reset your Google account on your phone
Another method you can try when Play Store not downloading apps is to reset your Google account on your Android phone. To attempt it you’d need to remove your Google account and add it again by going to Settings > Accounts. Under Manage Accounts, tap on Google. Than tap on the Google account which is required to be removed. Tap on the menu icon which consists of three dots at the top right > tap on Remove. After removing go to Settings > Accounts > Google and add your Google account again to make Play Store work.
(6) Enable the download manager
Your “Google Play won’t open” in case your download manager is disabled. If it happens then you’ll need to enable the download manager by going to Settings > Application Manager > All > Download Manager. Click on the Enable button to turn it on. If the Enable button is not displayed then probably your Download Manager is already enabled.
(7) Fix your phone’s date and time settings
Most of the time this fix works out when your phone’s Play Store is not connecting to the internet. Fixing your phone’s date and time settings lets Google Play Services coordinate with their key servers to send and receive data. In that case, your phone should show the accurate date and time or else you might face the ‘Play Store stopped working’ issue. To fix play store no connection by setting date and time, go to Settings > Date and Time. Check Automatic Date and Time. You can also manually enter the date and time but make sure it is correctly put.
(8) Factory reset your phone
If all the troubleshooting options failed and still there’s no connection play store then ultimately you might require factory data resetting your phone. Resetting your phone would lose all your data and installed applications. So before performing this, you should keep a backup of all your data. To perform factory reset go to Settings > Backup and reset. Tap Backup account and select the account where you want to backup the data. After the backup process is completed, go back to Backup and reset menu and tap on Factory data reset. Confirm the action and your phone will be reset. Now try opening the Google Play Store app and definitely this process will not drop.
(9) Edit hosts file (for rooted smartphones)
In case you use a rooted phone and none of these techniques work, then try editing your hosts file. To initiate this, follow the steps below:
- Go to your File Manager > Navigate to system/etc/hosts.
- Select the Edit option (this option might vary in some devices).
- Add a hashtag (#) at the beginning of the second set of numbers.
- Save changes.
- Reboot your phone and add your Google account once again.
Down timing, your Google Play store services will also disable the other in-app services like Google play music, movies, games, books, newsstand, apps, games and kindle. Which means you won’t be able to download or update anything from www.playstore.com Android and neither can you view any application. That’s a really very serious issue since Android is most used for its apps and games. So try out these fixes of you’re having a not updating app like Play Store.
