How to set up new PC using PCmover and old PC?
Before you attempt the migration process, make sure to back up all your files and important data to prevent any loss or damage. Additionally, to prevent virus and spyware from moving data along with the files, use a good anti-virus program to scan and detect any existing virus. From the above screenshots, you must have known what Laplink PCmover offers and the range of features it provides to users. You can get product support through live chat, email, phone, and forums. Laplink Support
Select your applications and user account
Laplink displays all the applications from your old PC which can be transferred to your new PC. This also includes the incompatible apps which lack support for the new system due to upgrade issues. You may deselect any application you want to eliminate transferring or do not require in the new system. The applications marked in red or attention symbol should be carefully reviewed before making the final transfer.
What not to transfer?
- Incompatible applications which do not support the operating system of the new PC
- Applications which are already installed and available on the new PC
- Applications running on trial version on one PC and on full version on the other one
- System utility tools like anti-virus programs, spyware detectors malware scanners, firewall software, etc. They might fail to migrate correctly
The program also allows transferring your old user accounts and suggests whether to include or exclude them. It normally asks to exclude the inactive or idle users who don’t have enough functionalities in the old system.
File and Folder Filtering
Laplink PCmover also allows you to transfer selected files and folders to the new system. Some file types will be already set up for you such as the .tmp (temporary files) which is generally small. You can exclude any file type or add any of them. Simply add the file format, for example, BMP and all .bmp files will be added. You can exclude files in a similar manner. Similarly, you can select and deselect folders, particularly to the transfer. Excluding any folder will eliminate it from the transfer and adding will add specific folders. But please ensure that this feature will let you add/exclude only folders and not files.
The Limitations
Laplink limits your transfer from certain criteria pertaining to the applications and system hardware. For instance, the printer apps cannot be transferred due to hardware incompatibility. The applications with copyright protection may also need to be reinstalled and reactivated on the new computer with a serial number or product key. Moreover, the files managed by the cloud storage services like Google Drive, Dropbox, Box.net, etc. cannot be migrated. Applications which are incompatible with the new OS will require installing manually with that specific OS version of the program. Based on my experience, I have faced this incompatibility issue with most of the applications which are either possibly compatible or not compatible at all.
Using Laplink on the new computer
To “transfer files from PC to PC” with Laplink, it will take several minutes or maybe hours for the operation to complete. In rare cases, the transfer freezes or you might see it discontinue so during that time, you might need to restart the transfer process. Once the transfer is completed, you will see a success message after which you can disconnect the network or Ethernet cable. To make the changes take effect, you’ll need to reboot your system or click Finish to restart automatically. After the operation is fully done, you’ll require installing the incompatible applications manually to give your new PC a move.

I actually like some of the features of this software but what I felt missing is that it does not provide multi threaded file transfer which is very necessary while migrating from one PC to other as it increases the transfer rate. Most of the software could handle at most 3 threads at a time and it does help much in increasing the transfer rate. I have been using GS Richcopy 360 for a while and it provides 100% multi threaded file transfer. And using this I can now even automate file transfer too.
